Mr. Levine joined CATS Academy Boston in 2013 and wears many proverbial hats:? he is a member of the English Department, where he teaches both AP English Language and Composition and AP English Literature and Composition, and also Literature 3 Honors; Assistant Dean of Discipline, and Kennedy House Parent.

Over the course of his career, he has taught at Washington University, Boston University, Gann Academy (Waltham), and the Community School of Naples (Naples, FL).? In various past lives, Mr. Levine has ghost written donation thank you letters from Washington University’s Chancellor, tutored neurodivergent students, sold men’s clothes and women’s shoes, and detasseled corn.

When he’s not teaching, grading, working with students on discipline issues, or dorm parenting, Mr. Levine enjoys music (listening and playing guitar), disc golf, long walks, cooking and eating, museums, writing and reading poetry, essays, and fiction, watching Boston sports, learning new things, and spending time with his daughters.

Mr. Levine has been recognized for his work, including the 2002 Academy of American Poets Prize (Boston University) and the 1998 Springfield, IL Poet of the Year.

“I challenge my students to engage in a search for meaning and connection in all texts they study and in all essays they write.? Meaning is a treasure and we embark on a treasure hunt.? Students strive to see how language creates meaning and how the meaning they glean from texts gleams in the worlds they’re part of and the worlds they have yet to experience.? In the process, they gain the confidence to articulate the changes they want to see in their communities and seek to make these changes happen in the world.” – Mr. Levine.
